The Pangani Affordable Housing Project is an initiative by the Nairobi City County Government in partnership with Tecnofin Kenya Limited to renew and re- create Pangani Estate.
The redevelopment of the county estate, which began in May 2020, was officially launched by H. E. President Uhuru Kenyatta at the end of June, will comprise of five blocks made up of 1,562 housing units.
The houses have been designed to promote sustainable neighbourhoods with a mix of affordable and market housing. Moreover, 60 percent of the units will be affordable housing costing between Sh1 and 3 million.
The Kalawa Housing Redevelopment Programme, a mixed-use development made up of 2,000 units, is part of the Kitui Affordable Housing Project, Under the Big Four Agenda launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during the launch, former Prime Minister said “I was pleased officially launch the Kitui Affordable Housing project which is under the Big Four Agenda”.
The project, overseen by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, includes houses ranging from bedsitters for starter homes to four-bedroom maisonnettes at Manyenyoni and Kalawa sites, with a price range of KES.1 million to KES. 5 million.
“This is the first ever joint venture program between the private developers, Tecnofin and Musyi Development to construct two thousand units. We have aptly named these pioneer developments Chief Kivoi Heights and Nzambani Rockview Estate as a recognition of our rich history and heritage” Governor Ngilu added.
The State Department Housing and Urban Development in conjunction with the Government Spokesperson’s Office and Nairobi County Government, jointly held a press conference on June 16, 2021 at the Pangani Affordable Housing Project Site.
The press conference served to update the nation on the progress made so far in the implementation of this important programme. The event was grace by the Mr. Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary at the State Department Housing and Urban Development, Col (rtd) Cyrus Oguna, Government Spokesperson and Her Excellency, Anne Kananu, Deputy Governor, Nairobi County.
Speaking during the press conference Mr. Charles Hinga congratulated Tecnofin, Nairobi Metropolitan Services and County Government of Nairobi for being worthy partners in the Affordable Housing Programme.
“I am impressed with the progress of the Pangani Affordable Housing Project and I urge all partners in this programme to do away with all the hurdles that impede the implementation of Affordable Housing Projects” added Her Excellency, Anne Kananu, Nairobi County Governor.
